PRICING

Our pricing is based on the complexity of the hunt, the number of participants, and the level of facilitation desired.

Pricing is also dependent on the level of customization you’re looking for in terms of location, theme or interactivity. There would obviously be additional expenses involved if, for instance, you wanted to have your hunt at the Oakland Zoo with a safari theme and actors in costume to interact with the players.

HUNT LOCATIONS

We have pre-tested, ready-to-go hunts in the San Francisco Bay Area’s most popular destinations, including:

• Chinatown
• North Beach /Telegraph Hill
• The Financial District
• Downtown / Union Square
• South of Market (SoMa)
• Angel Island
• The UC Berkeley Campus & downtown Berkeley

We can readily create a treasure hunt in the city or meeting place of your choosing anywhere around the world. We have created successful treasure hunts at outdoor retreats, in a hospital complex, and in various museums.

Each hunt is tailored according to the nature of your event and the characteristics of the participants. The hunts do not require familiarity with the playing area to achieve success.

Solving clues can call upon a variety of skills: knowledge of popular culture, current events and literature; map-reading and simple puzzle solving skills; research skills; and the ability to work effectively as a team.

Some clues are easy, a few are difficult, and many are in-between, giving players a variety of intellectual challenges.

HUNT LENGTH

Hunts can last from two to four hours, not including a pre-hunt orientation / briefing, and a post-hunt de-briefing (if desired). We tailor the length of the hunt to your needs and scheduling requirements.

HUNT PACKAGES

We offer completely facilitated hunts that are ideal for larger groups and for team-building exercises.

Facilitated hunts typically include:

1. All written materials, including instructions, a set of clues and a map for each participant, score-sheets, a street index are other tools useful for solving clues.
2. A pre-hunt briefing covering:
• An introduction to treasure hunting
• Discussion on working effectively as a team, collaborative problem solving, thinking creatively, planning and carrying out a strategy, and avoiding common pitfalls.
• Overview of the history and geography of the hunt area
• Warm-up clues
3. Scoring of each team’s answer sheet and tabulation of the results.
4. Post-hunt analysis and de-briefing that includes an explanation of each clue, information about the historical and cultural significance of the mystery location it led to, and an analysis of what skills and techniques teams used to effectively solve the puzzles. This is followed by an announcement of the winners.
5. Award certificates for the winning teams.

We also offer self-facilitated treasure hunts that are ideal if you have a limited budget, or have a smaller group seeking an afternoon of fun exploration rather than a team-building exercise. We provide all the materials, including a instructions, clues map and street indices, score-sheets, and clue solutions and explanations, that you’ll need to make the hunt a success.

THEME TREASURE HUNTS

We can create theme treasure hunts based around films, novels or other thematic sources, and can incorporate role-playing actors as part of the adventure.

We have created theme treasure hunts for private parties based on the film Vertigo and the novel (and TV mini-series) Tales of the City. Participants received a videotape of the film with their invitations, and solved clues leading to prominent locations featured in each work.

In other treasure hunts utilizing role-playing actors, hunters stepped into a novel, a film or a historical setting and

• ...cracked wise with a hard-boiled 1930s private eye in his dingy downtown office (complete with frosted glass door and whisky bottle in the desk)
• ...bartered for letters of transit with Rick at his Café Americain
• ...auditioned with a 1960s acid-rock band at the Fillmore
• ...served as seconds at San Francisco’s famous 1859 duel between Senator David Broderick and Supreme Court Justice David Terry.
